Student Well-being

The wellbeing of our community is of great importance to us. For our students, we provide healthy food, prepared by our own chef. Each morning, from 8am, there is a breakfast club where children can relax and have something to eat before school starts. At break time, students can also make use of our Dining Room to purchase additional items. A very large proportion of our students take school meals (over 75%) which is testimony to the quality of our provision.

Our students are also encouraged to live healthy lives across the whole curriculum, and in particular, through our Science, Technology, PE, RE, PSHE programme and Citizenship programmes. Our technology department takes the teaching of food and nutrition seriously and we are part of the Let's Get Cooking programme which encourages parents and students to cook together. Our extra-curricular provision encourages children to take part in a huge variety of sports and activities and our PE department has inclusion at its core. Everyone is encouraged to participate and enjoy physical exercise.

At lunchtimes, there are a variety of clubs on offer, from football to Artz Academy and dance and cheerleading. The Chilli Pepper Club also takes part in a variety of sporting activities. This club is for those learners who prefer to socialise with like minded friends in the comfort of other parts of the building. On the yard, you will find our children skipping, using hoola hoops and playing with soft balls. In 2014 we have introduced a toy box for use on our playground!

Students who have personal or social problems can also be referred to many of our support services, including: our Inclusion Centre, school chaplains, school nurse, school counsellors, learning mentors and learning managers. There is a whole team to support the development of the whole-child.

Staff Well-being

We take the wellbeing of our staff very seriously as they are totally committed to your children. A number of recent initiatives have included: car washing, lunch delivery service, a take-away service for family meals, flexible working arrangements, remote access, counselling, chaplaincy and flexible school opening hours. In July 2014, we were assessed for the Health and Wellbeing Award and our school was successful in achieving this prestigious quality standard.
